Hello everyone. Recently I became a Christian and was saved by the Lord Jesus Christ when I let him into my life and submitted myself and everything before Him. Its been about one month or so now since and things have been for the most part very good, but I’m still struggling and need some guidance. Even though I know the Lord is with me and I shouldn’t feel this way, I often feel pretty lonely. The reason I feel this way is because most of my friends that I associate with aren’t Christian since I was friends with them before I was saved and introduced to Christ by a different friend. I constantly feel conflicted because I still enjoy some of the old interests that I used to partake in with my friends, but I know they’re sinful. I have drawn the line at some major areas though. Like I stopped drinking and smoking which I used to do before I was saved. I guess I just feel at a loss because I feel like because all of my friends and associates aren’t Christian, their morals and values don’t reflect mine anymore, but I still care for and like my friends…
I feel like it would be wrong to stop being friends with all of them. But when I hang out with them I feel inclined to sin, whether it be in my speech, or in the temptation I feel to act in certain ways. I’m pretty torn on this currently 🙁 I feel like I’m losing people, my old life, and even at times my own identity. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of things I’m happy to be rid of… But there are somethings I’m confused on or don’t know about.
Besides this issue with my friends, I also am feeling anxious and restless lately. I was struggling with this prior to being saved and becoming a Christian and it was really bad, now its different though. I have so much time on my hands and I don’t know what to do with it all. I’m tired of indulging in selfish interests. Not only that but I constantly feel now that I’m Christian that I have to try to be perfect which is leaving me disappointed all of the time because obviously I fail at this since I am a sinner. In relation to this, being a new Christian I need some help in figuring out how I’m suppose to think and what I should be doing with my new life. All in all I just need people to pray for me because I’m struggling with all of this and any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you and God bless.
Establishing a personal relationship with God through prayer and reading your Bible is the best way to start. God bless. Zoe.
Dear Munsanity,
I am praying with you for the Lord Jesus to lead you to a Bible believing church in your area.
I agree with the previous post. praying and reading your Bible is priority.
(perhaps you can start with the book of John)
Read Job, it’s a very moving story. Job lost everything and remained strong and contept knowing that the lord gives and takes away. Second, know that we don’t come to christ to get good things but to do good and to know who he is so we can give him to other people by being an example. You don’t have to leave your friends. remember christ ate with sinners. it’s not the healthy tthat need a doctor. Rejoice, because the lord will always provide. pray for people who love the lord to come into your life
Munsanity,
I want to encourage you to persevere, walking as a Christian isn’t easy and requires sacrifice. However Hallelujah God is with you. I recently split from my partner of 10 years because I felt lead by God to do so (my partner had not committed his life to Christ and I love and miss him sooooo much). I have felt lonely too but I find that in this loneliness God wants me to draw closer to him, God is such an awesome friend and loving father.
I encourage you to ask God to lead you in your decision making ie, spending time with friends and how to deal with your loneliness.
Ask him to strengthen you through the Holy spirit when you are in tempting situations with friends so that you abstinence will give God glory. I have kjust started to memorise Psalm 1 and I think this reflects your situation and how God wants to bless you.
I want to encourage you to plant yourself in a Bible believing church and to meditate on Gods word. This may take you outside of you comfort zone but it will help your faith to take deep roots.
I recently recommitted to Christ, when I first became a Christian 12 years ago I tried to do walk on my own. Though I knew Christians I hadn’t really ‘plugged’ into a church so when things got difficult, when I felt confused I felt lonely and I had no one I felt I could to turn to for advice or encouragement. In my loneliness and confusion it wasn’t long before I had turned my back on God and returned to my old ways – Thank God for deliverance!
I pray that God will bring faithful and encouraging Christians into your life. That you will develop fruitful and loving relationships with people who will raise you up, sharpen, challenge and guide you.
Be encouraged God knows your heart and what you need and you are now part of a wonderful family in Christ. I will keep you in my prayers.
Let us know how you get on.
Love and God blessings be upon you.
Dear friend,
this is what the Lord Jesus said:
“Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10
And also:
” In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.†John 3
“4You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God” James 4
Leave the world friend, and give your life completly to the Lord Jesus. Your decision will either take you to Hell and eternal damnation, or everlasting life with God.
May the Lord Jesus bless you
I dont really know how i got here just typed a question on google search and went down the list until i got here but their is a reason that i am here and god lead me hear, finding the words that i needed to hear so that i could confess my sins to god and realize that he is the way and the truth so forgive me father for the sins that i have made and know is wrong in my heart, may you have mercy on my soul for you are love this i know. father may i reach out to you and give my life back to you because the devil has taken a toll on my body and mind so let this be known that i am not perfect because all fall short of the glory of god but know that i wanna be more like christ, In JESUS name i pray…. amen
Thank you for giving to the world a savior so we may have everlasting life, God is love…..
Hold on there!
You say “I’m Christian that I have to try to be perfect”.
Why do you try pal?
Galatians 3:3 – How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?
So relax. Jesus is al-right with you. Breathe. Let God the Holy Spirit guide you. Now don’t be thinking what it takes to make Holy Spirit guide you. You needn’t do anything. God knows how to guide you and when to guide you. Just sit back and receive and observe His work in you and in your life.
John 16:13 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.
Now how is it that God understands us so well and wants us to proceed in Spirit (with His strength) and not on our own efforts (flesh)….
Hebrews 4:15-16 — For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Wow we have a God who understands and who’s able to change us.
2 Corinthians 3:18 – And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being TRANSFORMED into the same image from ONE DEGREE of glory to ANOTHER. FOR THIS COMES FROM THE LORD WHO IS THE SPIRIT.
God gives holiness to you when you’re still on this sinful earth, hence you needn’t run away from your friends. Ephesians 1:4 – For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
Now when you are saved, 2 Corinthians 13:8 – For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.
Proverbs 20:24 – A man’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?
Now it is God who is patient enough to change you to change your will and wish to bring yours in His accord.
I’m not saying this, the Bible says.
Philippians 2:13 – or it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Psalm 138:8 – The LORD will fulfill [his purpose] for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever–do not abandon the works of your hands.
Hebrews 4:10 – for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.
Proverbs 19:21 – Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Philippians 1:6 – being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
The Lord Himself will impart His goodness in you…(Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 15:5)- “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My Statutes, and ye shall keep My Judgments, and do them… Without Me ye can do nothing”.
He won’t change you overnight. He takes time to strengthen you in faith. So put all your trust upon Him.
Yo need to take a break from your own efforts and trust Him. Allow Him to change you, give Him time. Psalm 46:10 – He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.
Hmmm you grow anxious. Its not gonna kill you, relax. Anxiety is a sign of impatience and fear. You are anxious to see a change in you as soon as possible and have fear because you fear that you’ll stumble and held guilty. 1 John 4:18 – There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. THE ONE WHO FEARS IS NOT MADE PERFECT IN LOVE.
So once you’re made perfect in love, you wont be tormented by fear and any sorts of anxiety. Let God love you. Unless you know the depth of His love you cant love Him back.1 John 4:19 – We love him, because he first loved us.
I wanna tell you more about Him but i’m very sleepy that i cant even type anymore. Will tell you more next time. Right now i cant even type anyth properly. God will lead you.
