After writing my Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Junior High School (JHS) level, I emerged with aggregate 14 (though I wanted a single number aggregate). It pained me since I was the best student in my school. Our Senior High Schools got released shortly after the results came out. Everyone was expecting me to get a “category A” Senior High School (SHS) but unfortunately got a category C school (This school was my fourth choice). This really broke me and felt God has failed me. I even wanted to change my school, but something moved me to stop taking that step.
I got admitted to the school and beloved, I felt broken when I saw the school’s infrastructures. Some of the buildings were incomplete and were looking archaic. Seeing this, my pain towards God grew more and more. One day, I analyzed my life back at JHS and realized that I wasn’t committed to God then. So, I decided to turn a new leaf. I began to read 1 chapter in my Bible every day and started learning seriously even though I was in SHS 1.
We wrote an End of Semester Examination and by God’s grace I ranked 2nd in the whole school. Once again when we wrote our first and second Mock (Mock is an Examination to prepare W candidates) I ranked 1st in the whole school. All this showed me that me reading my Bible everyday has brought me closer to God and that He has opened great doors in my life.
Our final Examination was approaching which is WASSCE. This exam determines whether you are eligible for tertiary institutions (like universities and training colleges). My friends and I knew that without God we would fail so we took up the mantle to fast everyday until the WASSCE begins. It wasn’t easy but by God’s grace we fasted for approximately a month.
The Examination started shortly after the fasting. Before we wrote any subject, we would pray for retentive memories from God. Indeed, God did not fail us. I realized whenever I faced any difficulty with any question in any paper (subject), I would miraculously receive help from either my teachers, friends or I would remember all that I’ve learnt.
All the papers (subjects) went well by God’s grace, but I feared that I might fail Core Mathematics. This is because, with Core Mathematics, every student is required to answer 10 questions. Unfortunately, I answered only 9. After Core Mathematics, I realized that I have wrongly solved about 3 questions. This made me think that I might fail Mathematics. People even cried after the Core Mathematics because it was so difficult.
We finished with our Exams and were all praying for favour especially for Mathematics.
After about 7 weeks the results came out. I heard that about 51% of the candidates have failed Core Mathematics and this scared me a lot. On a bright Sunday morning (which is the day after the results have been released) after going to church, I went to check my results. I felt nervous and my heart was almost jumping out of my body. After checking the results, I was shocked. This is what I got:
Social Studies. -A1
English Language. -B2
Core Mathematics. -B3
Integrated Science. -A1
Economics. -A1
Geography. -A1
Elective Mathematics -A1
Elective ICT. -A1
I can’t express the joy I felt with human words. Beloved, I knew I might fail Mathematics but by His Grace I passed. I heard a lot of students in Higher schools (Category “A”) had failed and this reminded me about when I became disappointed with God for giving me a Category “C” school. I said to myself, “What would have been my results if I was in the Category “A” school I wanted to attend”. I then realized that God had given me this school for a better result. I asked for forgiveness for doubting God. A little advice I have for you is that:
- Always pray for the will of God to be done in your life.
- In all things Give thanks to the Lord.
- Try as much as possible to read your Bible every day (I tried it and it really helped me).
- Pray every day.
- Always trust God because He never fails and never lose faith in Him
Please share this testimony to everyone to help remind them that God is not dead and that He is still working. All we just have to do is to just trust and have faith in Him and He will not fail us. Amen!!!

Thanks for sharing this good advice. When we are put into situations that we do not understand, it could be because God is going to use us in a special way.
Congratulations Anthony. Thank you for the little advice. May your light never dim. As you proceed in life, never forget your little beginnings.
Never forget that God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
I wish you well and may you continue to be a testament of God’s goodness.
