Account of the Event and Revelation Explaining Ecclesiastes 12:5 – 8:
I was at my mother’s house, suffering all kinds of hardship: my mother was very ill, I was facing persecution at work, my wife and I were fighting every day, I was drowning in debt, and I had absolutely no peace… I contemplated suicide, but suspecting that GOD existed due to the times He had miraculously saved my life from mortal danger, I decided to pray first.
I said:
“If You exist, You are very cruel; You see how much I am suffering and do nothing? Yet, I do not want to escape this suffering only to be condemned to hell. So, either You show me that You exist, or I will kill myself tomorrow!”
Then I looked at the clock; it was exactly midnight. I lay down, and the moment I did, I sat up in bed. But something was wrong; I felt incredibly light. I looked back and saw myself lying there asleep. Suddenly, I was lifted to the living room ceiling, facing my body; I tried to re-enter it but couldn’t; everything was incredibly vivid. I knew it wasn’t a dream. I pinched myself; I could feel a spiritual body, and there was a silver cord connecting my spiritual navel to the physical navel of the body lying motionless on the bed.
Then, I felt a second pull, lifting me high above the city. I beheld Cruz Vermelha Square in downtown Rio de Janeiro with buses passing, people walking – everything was so real. That was when I felt a third pull, dragging me into space; the cities shrank, the globe became small, and I clung to the silver cord. Astonished and terrified, feeling as though I were dying, I traveled at tremendous speed, weightless; the sun and stars rushed past me as I traveled facing the Earth, with my back to the heavens.
From far away, I felt a light penetrating every cell of my body; the light was coming from behind me, so I turned and saw a light brighter than the sun. Every pore of my body overflowed with bliss and peace – pure love – and I realized that everything I had sought in life was right there, in that feeling of complete harmony, with love pouring from my heart.
I let go of the silver cord that somehow connected me to life, feeling completely fulfilled by the light that gave me such strength. Then I noticed the silhouette of someone sitting there, though the intense light prevented me from seeing clearly. When I finally surrendered and let go of the silver cord, I returned to my body in bed. I felt flooded with pleasure; I didn’t quite understand what had happened – whether it was a dream, a vision, or reality – but I looked at the clock, and it was exactly midnight. How had so much time passed, yet not a single minute had gone by?
I went to work and started hugging everyone; for three years, I experienced that same pleasure, a chaste one. Helping and loving people gave me a sense of ecstasy. I sought an explanation in *The Spirits’ Book* but found nothing; I turned to the Quran – nothing; then the Vedas and Buddhism. Finally, I left the Bible for last, as I either didn’t believe in it or didn’t understand it.
Then I heard: “What you are looking for is in that book,” pointing to the middle of my father’s bookshelf, which held about 500 volumes. Upon opening it, I saw the title *Notable Lives*; I read the account of Jesus and the passage from Matthew 11:18:
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
I felt joy return, pointing to the truth found in Jesus.
Explanation of Ecclesiastes 12:5 – 8:
I began reading the Gospel of John, and I felt that joy and gladness once more, confirming it through the words of Jesus… When I read Ecclesiastes 12:5 – 8, I recognized the account of my journey in the Spirit to the House of God.
The astonishment comes from realizing the Spirit is outside the body, departing for another place; the body feels light because we are spirit; we have no weight. The silver cord is what connects the Spirit to the body, to life itself. The lack of appetite stems from being nourished directly by God, and the whiteness represents the light of God; God is light, the Father of Lights, and He illuminated me.
Thus, I came to understand that
“…What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” ??(1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV)…
It is a state of immense joy, peace, and union with the SPIRIT OF GOD.”
Ecclesiastes 12:5 – 8 ESV:
they are afraid also of what is high, and terrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, and desire fails, because man is going to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets— before the silver cord is snapped, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern, and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; all is vanity.
