Healed of Meningitis

This is a testimony of God’s multiple miracles of healing my 13-year-old son Daniel, from head injury, meningitis (brain fever) and double vision.

From mid Jan to mid Feb, my son had a chronic cold and sinusitis, which his doctor dismissed as a seasonal viral flu and then on Feb 26th, while applying a tick medicine to our pet dog, he slipped and hurt his head on the vertical iron pole.

He did not inform us on that day as he felt it was not very painful, but the next day he had a swelling on the left side of his forehead.

My son’s doctor after examining did not advise on a scan and asked us to give a cold compress.

After few days the headache started becoming unbearable, and though we insisted on a scan, his doctor just prescribed painkillers as there was no adverse symptoms and prescribed painkillers and said he will be ok in a few days.

After 2 days, during midnight Daniel developed a high fever and rushed him to a well-known hospital close by and admitted him.

The consulting neurosurgeon after the CT scan mentioned that there was no trauma to the brain except for a hairline fracture in the left frontal side of his skull. The neurosurgeon said it will heal on its own, but he pointed out to the upper left sinus cavity which was clogged and advised us on getting it treated by a ENT specialist.

The ENT specialist asked us to meet after a week to drain it out and during this stay at the hospital, he was given high IV doses of antibiotics but still his head ache was not getting any better after that he was discharged, but soon after returning home, his fever came back and his head ache was excruciating and then one afternoon my son started complaining of double vision.

We immediately rushed him to the same neurosurgeon, he immediately asked us to do an MRI scan, the report suggested blood accumulation on the left side, in between the skull and the brain. Going by the radiologist report, any other neurologist would have concluded that it may not be that serious, may be just old blood and will get absorbed and resolve on his own.

However, our neurosurgeon was not convinced, he suspected pus from the sinus cavity that would have entered through the hairline fracture and advised us to get an MRI spectroscopy of the brain and also orbit (eye) scan.

The neurosurgeon fears came out right based on his accurate judgement, he immediately scheduled a craniotomy (skull surgery) for the very next day. This was very critical as we could not lose any time. A misdiagnosis on the initial report, that a surgery was not necessary could have been fatal. (In hindsight we are really grateful to Jesus for this neurosurgeon s accurate judgement).

By the grace of God, the surgery was a success; it was followed by an ENT surgery on the same day to drain out the sinuses. We were quite anxious as any surgery which involves the brain, there could be risks, a memory loss, speech impediment or any deficit in mobility of limbs.

Through the grace of God all his senses were fine, but due to the infection, he had developed meningitis. We were very anxious as is a very serious disease. The panel of pathogens (T.B., encephalitis etc ) and the culture test came out negative and that was a relief.

Five days after the surgery, I felt like attending church for the Sunday service. My wife said that she would be ok to take care of him for an hour. After I stepped out of the church service, I got a call from my wife. She said that while she was helping my son to the bathroom, he had slipped while stepping on the wooden ramp and fallen and hurt his head again on the same left side. We were so distressed and had to immediately do another CT scan and send it to the neurosurgeon as he was not in town.

I was in fact questioning if my decision was right to attend church at such a time. We really wept and prayed and our neurosurgeon, after looking at the report, called and informed that the scan did not indicate any new injury. We were so grateful and thanked God and praised his holy name for this miracle as another surgery on the side would have been very risky.

The timing of the evening fall, right after surgery and on the same left side of his head felt very uncanny, like the powers of hell were really trying hard to hurt him.

Just 2 days after the incident, when the neurosurgeon was visiting, he noticed my son was having a runny nose. He suspected it might be CBF or brain fluid dripping out of his nose. The ENT surgeon who operated, was immediately called and was asked to probe. We were very stressed while we waited, as another skull surgery would not be even safe.

Again, the lord Jesus is a good good God. The ENT specialist after thoroughly examining confirmed it was just his nose leaking due to the stent in one of his nostril, which was placed during the ENT surgery. It was a real relief, and we could not thank God enough for delivering us again.

My son was in the hospital for few more days to recover from meningitis, his double vision improved as the brain swelling subsided.

This too was a miracle from Jesus, as the consultation with the ophthalmologist confirmed that the earlier MRI of the orbit scan and the later eye scan s showed unbelievable improvement in the papilloedema or swelling in the eyes, had subsided as the brain swelling has also subsided.

After getting discharged from the hospital, my son Daniel was still on IV antibiotics drips given at home and again his low-grade fever came back, then after the periodical blood test, when we just thought our ordeal was over, we got a call from the hospital saying that his blood count has dropped including his neutrophils.

We were at our wits end, as the paediatrician from the hospital was traveling away for the long weekend. We immediately had to search and then admitted him in a paediatric hospital.

The next day we were called to the counseling room and informed that they will be doing a bone marrow biopsy, it was like a bolt out of the blue, first the craniotomy and now this, it was the end of the tether for both my wife and me.

The next 3 days were agonizing and stressful. We had everyone praying for my son. Family friends, several prayer groups and the elders of our church too. I fasted and fervently prayed. I wrestled with God in prayer until he would bless and heal my son, like Jacob wrestled with God until God blessed him.

Incidentally my mother calls and mentions that she spoke through someone who through a word of prophecy, mentioned a name of a person, who had done some kind of witchcraft over my family.

When I heard the name, I had goosebumps, because it was a manager who had worked for me and I and him to quit, because of repeated complaints of him drinking on the job and quarreling. I wasn’t at all surprised at hearing his name. This was the first time I ever heard a prophet speaking that was so true. At that instant my faith was strengthened, and I started to claim the promise of healing by the blood of Jesus on my child.

By evening, while we were praying, the oncologist along with the other doctors walked into our ward with the bone marrow biopsy and mentioned that everything was absolutely fine and there was nothing to worry in the report, and my son could be discharged the next day.

By God’s grace and mercies, the fever also had completely stopped a few days ago, and after discharge the blood count also was back to normal from the recent blood test.

I cannot tell how thankful we were to God for his healing and grace.

Even though we had to go through a lot, unbearable mental stress and agony, but the Lord Jesus, due to his infinite grace and mercy has heard our prayers and healed and restored my son from meningitis and now his double vision is almost completely healed. Although the ophthalmologist had said it would take few months for the eye to heal.

All praise and thanks to Yahweh Rafa the healer and the blood of Jesus for healing and delivering my son one after the other. I am so grateful to Jesus for he was so merciful, I can’t stop thinking or thanking him for his unending love.

God loves us so much and he is alive and hears us.
