I write this short version of my two-year story to inspire and give hope to people with any type of sickness, infirmity and disease. I want all people to know that you do not have to be in despair and feel hopeless if you fall into this category.
When I was just 15 years old, I was diagnosed with a disease called ulcerative colitis. It is a disease that causes internal bleeding in your colon/large intestines. This illness falls immediately under Crohn’s disease, which is not curable. With proper medication and good doctors, ulcerative colitis can normally be treated.
For me, I was admitted into the hospital about 3 months after I was diagnosed. I just had my 16th birthday, and I was just about to have the ride of my life.
I had to have emergency surgery to have my colon removed because it was about to rupture. I tell you that I NEVER felt such fear in my life when the doctor told me I would die if I didn’t choose to have the operation.
I was in high school, and I never would have guessed that out of over 6 billion other people on earth that I would be the one facing a death situation. I had my colon removed and had to have a colostomy bag. After my major surgery, I learned that I was having side effects from the medication I was given to try to prevent from having the operation. I wound up having pancreatitis which causes excruciating pain in the pancreas. I also had parasites form inside me that had to be treated with even more medication.
I went through 2 more surgeries to reroute my small intestines to work as my colon so that I could have the colostomy bag removed and live a more normal life. I had to have physical therapy to help with nerve damage from one of the surgeries that put me in a wheelchair. I was able to be reconnected and have my colostomy bag removed for a few months before I found myself in the worst situation of my life.
The final surgery that reconnected my digestive system and remove my colostomy had failed and I had a deadly infection growing in my belly. I had to have another massive surgery to have a portion of my small bowels removed that acted as my replacement colon. I also had to have to colostomy bag again, only this time it was permanent.
This was not the worst part. The infection had already spread through my bloodstream, and I had become septic. I had fungus flowing through my veins and up through my eyes. My respiratory system shut down and I was put on a ventilator in ICU. The doctors did everything in their power to keep me alive, but nothing was in my favor. They advised my parents to start making arrangements for my death.
Now I want people to know that this by no means is the full story of all that I went through during those two years of my life. I was told on 3 different occasions that I was going to die. I am only pointing out the main details for people to understand.
At this point, so much prayer went out for me from my family, my church, friends and even soldiers in Iraq that didn’t even know who I was. Word spread out about my situation like a wildfire and a vast amount of people were in prayer for me. Now I want to bring up Acts 28:8 which says,
“And it happened that the father of Publius was lying in bed afflicted with recurrent fever and dysentery; and Paul went in to see him and after he had prayed, he LAID HIS HANDS on him and healed him.”
The last day I was possibly expected to live, my pastors came to visit me in the hospital. They prayed over me and laid hands on me in the name of Jesus Christ. The following day, the doctors came to do a regular check on my blood, and they discovered that there was NO TRACE of the fungus anywhere! They were baffled and confessed they had never seen anything like that before. God Almighty healed me and saved me from death.
By the stripes of Jesus Christ, I was healed!
I am now 24 years old and happily married to my beautiful wife and have a great career as a hair stylist and musician. I wanted to tell people this testimony and give hope to those who are in similar situations or know someone else that is going through a rough time. If you don’t believe that it’s God’s will for you to always be healthy then I want to point out Mark 8:3 which says,
“Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, ‘I am willing; be cleansed.’ And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”
God DOES and WILL heal you.
Mark 1:41 and Luke 5:13 state that when Jesus healed people He said, “I am willing.” Read through the four Gospels and see all the healing miracles Jesus performed.
In Mark 16:17 Jesus said, “These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will LAY HANDS ON THE SICK, and they will recover.”
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is still the healer, and he WANTS to heal you.
I want to emphasize that it is the Devil who afflicts us with sickness. The bible says that the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy.
1 John says “…for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” Be encouraged and fight the good fight of faith. God will hold you up with His victorious right hand.
